The start of the 2026 Formula 1 season has increasingly highlighted Aston Martin’s problems under these new regulations. In fact, in an interview given in Australia, Adrian Newey confirmed rumors that it is unlikely the British team will be able to complete the full race at the championship opener.

The team bet on a major overhaul with the category’s new era in mind. In addition to Newey not just as a designer but also as team principal, they also invested in Honda engines and a state-of-the-art factory in Silverstone, along with other key signings to start the year on the right foot.
However, problems already began to emerge during the shakedown in Barcelona. Arriving late, it barely managed to complete many laps, and the situation only worsened during the two weeks of pre-season testing in Bahrain, showing that the high expectations for a strong championship could go down the drain, at least at the start of the season.
And in an interview given in Melbourne, the Aston Martin Formula 1 official confirmed the fears: it will not be possible to complete more than a few laps in the Australian GP on March 8th.

“This chassis vibration is causing some reliability issues. Mirrors coming loose, rear lights coming loose, all that sort of thing, which we are having to resolve. But the much more significant problem is that this vibration ends up being transmitted to the driver’s fingers,” said Adrian.
“So, Fernando [Alonso] thinks he can’t do more than 25 consecutive laps before risking permanent nerve damage to his hands. Lance [Stroll] thinks he can’t do more than 15 laps before reaching that limit. There’s no point in us being anything but frank and honest in this meeting,” he continued.
“It’s something that, unfortunately, Koji [Watanabe] and I haven’t had the opportunity to discuss properly before this meeting. We will have to significantly limit the number of laps we do in the race until we identify the source of the vibration and improve it at its source,” he concluded.
