Alpine returned the third place trophy of the 2026 Monaco GP of Formula 1 to Red Bull after losing the appeal at the FIA (International Automobile Federation) International Court of Appeal. However, the French team does not yet consider the case closed and is evaluating the possibility of appealing to the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS).

The dispute began after Pierre Gasly received two five-second penalties for exceeding the speed limit in the pit lane during the Monaco race. The Frenchman crossed the finish line in third, but the penalties initially classified him in seventh. As a result, Isack Hadjar took third place and Oscar Piastri finished fourth.
Alpine decided to contest the penalties through a Right of Review. In the process, it was discovered that Formula One Management (FOM) had considered an incorrect distance between the timing points in the pit lane to calculate Gasly’s speed. The stewards acknowledged the problem and, on June 12, annulled the penalties. Gasly returned to third place, while Hadjar moved to P4 and Piastri to P5.
However, the decision opened a new discussion. Gasly was not the only driver penalized in Monaco after being affected by the incorrect measurements. Other competitors had already served their penalties during the race and, therefore, could not recover the lost time. For this reason, Red Bull and McLaren appealed to the FIA International Court of Appeal, which ruled in favor of the two teams. Alpine continues to disagree with the result and believes it is being harmed even without having committed an infraction.

The team also considers the participation of one of the judges in the trial unusual. According to Alpine, the magistrate had ties with McLaren. Flavio Briatore described the situation as “strange” during the press conference of the team representatives in Italy.
With the decision of the International Court of Appeal, there is no longer any possibility of appeal within the FIA. However, Alpine can still take the case to the CAS.
