On Thursday (27), Alpine confirmed the retention of Argentine Franco Colapinto as the team’s driver for the 2027 Formula 1 season, alongside Frenchman Pierre Gasly. The decision officially ends a possible alternative for Fernando Alonso, who is expected to continue at Aston Martin.

At the Dutch GP, Alonso had not yet confirmed his stay at Aston Martin. The Spaniard said he would talk to Lawrence Stroll and Adrian Newey before deciding his future: “I don’t know. I just got back from vacation now, so I’ll see in the next days, weeks or months. We’ll see. I know Lawrence is coming this weekend, so I’ll have a good lunch with him or have a coffee, and maybe in Monza.”
“I don’t know when he’s coming next. I’ll also have to go to the factory soon to do the Madrid simulators, so maybe if Lawrence or Adrian are around, I’ll also sit down with them. So maybe in the next few weeks,” explained the two-time world champion.

Despite this, the international press states that Alonso had already decided his future and that his partnership with Aston Martin would be “simply” renewed. According to the GPBlog portal, the announcement is expected during the Spanish Grand Prix, which will be held at the new Madrid Circuit in two weeks.
