Fernando Alonso stated that Aston Martin’s major update, scheduled for the Hungarian GP next weekend, will not be decisive for his choice about continuing in Formula 1 in 2027. The British team is having a difficult season, occupying the last positions on the grid.

Even with expectations about the impact of the novelty, Alonso said his decision will not depend on the current performance of the car. The Spaniard had already indicated that he intends to define his future during the next summer break. When asked about the importance of the update for his choice, Alonso answered the press:
“Nothing. Nothing because my decision is not related to this year’s performance. This year we started off on the wrong foot. I cannot base my decision for next year on a performance that is not realistic. This is not the true potential of the team. It is much greater than what we are seeing.”

The driver explained that his decision will be more linked to the future regulations of the category. The FIA (International Automobile Federation) has already confirmed changes for 2026, including the end of the 50/50 split between combustion engine and battery, as well as greater participation of the traditional engine’s power.
“My decision for next year has more to do with the rules,” Alonso added. “Driving these cars in places like Spa or Silverstone in the last race is not what I dream of for my future. So we’ll see,” concluded the two-time world champion.
