Fernando Alonso received a grid penalty for the Belgian Grand Prix of Formula 1. The Aston Martin driver will use new power unit components and will start Sunday’s race at the back of the pack.

The team installed a new energy storage system and a new electronic control unit in the Spaniard’s car. Both components will be the fourth used by Alonso this season, exceeding the limit of three units allowed for each item during the championship.
With this, the two-time world champion becomes the fourth driver penalized for exceeding the number of components authorized by the FIA. The penalty increases Alonso’s challenge at Spa-Francorchamps, as his qualifying position will not determine the starting point for the race.

Lando Norris will also serve a penalty at the Belgian GP. The McLaren driver will lose ten positions on the starting grid, while Isack Hadjar will be forced to start at the back of the pack after changing components beyond the allowed quota.
Alonso will also be joined by Lance Stroll among the drivers positioned at the back of the grid. Thus, the two Aston Martin cars will face a recovery race on Sunday, alongside Hadjar, while Norris will try to minimize the damage from his ten-place penalty.
