Alex Albon made it clear that his already confirmed stay at Williams for the 2027 Formula 1 season does not represent an open commitment for the coming years. The Thai-British driver wants to first see a response from the team to the problems presented this season.

The British team confirmed the continuation of Albon and Carlos Sainz for 2027 in announcements made just one day apart, but used different terms for each driver. While Albon had his stay confirmed for the next season, Sainz’s statement mentioned a multi-year agreement.
The difference drew attention precisely at a moment of difficulties for the team, which lost performance compared to its position in the previous year. Albon stated that he intends to evaluate the project’s evolution before thinking about a longer contract.
“On my side, I want to see a reaction. I want to see what the team can deliver. I want to see a strong recovery compared to this year,” said Albon.

For him, the drop in performance cannot be attributed exclusively to the car. The driver pointed out a series of problems that, according to him, compromised Williams’ season, including issues related to weight and even the loss of testing opportunities.
“We talk about the car’s performance, but there were many areas as a team where we did not deliver what we should. Whether it’s the quality of the car or the weight… besides losing tests, there are some things we let slip this year,” he added.
Albon acknowledged that team principal James Vowles and the other members of Williams are working to solve the problems, but assessed that the recovery will depend on fixing different points: “But it’s not just one isolated thing, this year it was several things. There is still work to be done,” he concluded.
