Nyck de Vries, who is a Formula E champion, commented on the recent criticisms made about Formula 1. The Dutch driver, who raced in F1 between 2022 and 2023, said he understands the dissatisfaction of some competitors in the category with the current technical regulations, especially regarding overtaking and the implementation of the 50% electric engine.

“I understand very well that, in Formula 1, it has traditionally always been about maximizing optimization; simply being able to drive on the limit, complete the circuit as fast as possible, and brake as late as possible. So I understand that this is not what Formula 1 drivers expect from F1. They should simply have the fastest cars in the world. Personally, I find the overtakes I have seen very artificial,” he told GPblog.
Even in the face of frequent comparisons between F1 and Formula E, De Vries believes the two categories should be analyzed separately. “Ah, that’s not how I see it. You shouldn’t compare Formula E with Formula 1. Technically, there is something to learn, but in sporting terms, they don’t even come close,” he said.

“I have a lot of fun in Formula E. Especially on the technical side, it is very challenging. The competition is very high, and you are constantly under pressure,” he commented.
Before the return of Formula E, at the end of June, in China, De Vries turns his attention to the 24 Hours of Le Mans, the main WEC race, where he competes for Toyota.
