Red Bull expects to put the so-called “Macarena” wing back into action already at the Hungarian Grand Prix of Formula 1, which takes place next week. The team’s technical director, Pierre Waché, explained this Friday (17) that the component was temporarily removed after the incidents in Austria and Silverstone, but assured that a solution has already been found.

In addition to commenting on the development of the part, the director evaluated the team’s performance on the first day of activities in Spa-Francorchamps. Max Verstappen finished FP2 in third position, but the Frenchman believes there is still room for improvement before qualifying.
“It’s a good starting point, but I’m still not sure he (Verstappen) is satisfied, from what I heard. We still have a lot to improve in terms of balance, especially on short laps and, certainly, also in tire degradation,” he said.

About the rear wing, Waché revealed that the problem identified was mechanical in nature and arose after the accident in Silverstone. “It’s a mechanical problem that we identified after the accident in Silverstone. We will fix it. We are trying to prove that the part is completely reliable before putting it back on the car and it should be ready for Budapest,” he explained.
“We analyzed the wing and we know what happened. We know how to fix it. We just want to make sure it is ready and completely reliable. I don’t want to be too specific about what we are doing because that is part of the performance gain of this wing. We take this very seriously, we discussed it with the FIA because it is our obligation to ensure the car is safe. We will reinforce the part and you will see this wing back soon,” he concluded.
