Max Verstappen was once again questioned about his future in Formula 1, but avoided fueling the many rumors linking him to McLaren. On the eve of the Belgian GP, the four-time world champion made it clear that he does not intend to comment on speculations and stated that he will announce any news when there is something concrete.

In recent weeks, the Dutchman has been pointed out as a possible reinforcement for the Woking team, in a negotiation that could place him alongside Lando Norris. Speculations also indicate Oscar Piastri as the driver who would make room in a possible long-term deal, probably taking the Dutchman’s spot at Red Bull Racing, in a direct swap.
According to various reports, talks between Verstappen’s representatives and McLaren took place at the driver’s request. The meetings involved the team’s CEO, Zak Brown, as well as Verstappen himself and members of his management team, but any possibility would be conditional on the future.
During the Belgian GP press conference this Thursday (16), Verstappen was straightforward when asked if there was any update on his contractual situation: “No,” he initially replied. When asked about a possible deadline to decide his future, he limited himself to answering: “There is nothing to say.”
The journalists’ insistence continued, including questions about a possible commitment to remain at Red Bull until the end of his contract, valid until 2028. Once again, the Dutch driver avoided giving details: “I said there is nothing to say. I don’t want to come here and answer yes or no about my future. I have said many times that if there is something new, I will tell it myself,” he stated.

Even without confirming his plans, Verstappen highlighted the relationship built over the years with Red Bull: “It’s a relationship you build over time, through the things the team does for you and the things you do for the team. That has always been very good for me. It’s like a second family,” he said.
The Dutchman also commented on the current moment of the team, which is seeking solutions to the problems faced by the car. According to him, internal discussions remain open and are part of the team’s work routine.
“We are trying to solve the current problems of the car, and that happens through open dialogue. Sometimes you get disappointed after a race, but for example, after Silverstone, I went home, recharged my energy, and on Wednesday, I was already back at the factory,” he added.
The Dutch driver continued, stating that his way of working alongside Red Bull remains unchanged, regardless of the level of competitiveness in each season: “Some years you are more competitive than others, but in terms of my approach and the way we work as a team, nothing really changes,” Verstappen concluded.
