F1: Mercedes is fined after Russell's infringement in FP1 in Monaco

Mercedes received a €100 fine from the FIA after George Russell exceeded the pit lane speed limit during FP1 of the Monaco GP. This Friday (5), the Briton surpassed the allowed mark of 60 km/h by just 0.3 km/h.

Although the infraction was minimal, it constitutes a violation of Article B1.6.3a of the Formula 1 Sporting Regulations. As a consequence, the German team was financially penalized early in the weekend’s activities.

On track, the competitor managed to stay among the top positions in the session, despite the setback. The driver finished FP1 in fifth position, 1s behind the fastest in the practice, Charles Leclerc.

The Briton’s performance, however, was below that recorded by his teammate. Championship leader, Kimi Antonelli finished the session in fourth place and was about 0.4s faster than Russell.

Despite the stroke of bad luck, the fine should not have a sporting impact for Mercedes throughout the weekend.
