Aston Martin has acknowledged that it will face difficult months in the 2026 Formula 1 season, after a start considered disastrous by the team. Fernando Alonso and Lance Stroll have had a frustrating campaign so far, with the team occupying the last position in both the drivers’ and constructors’ championships before the Canadian GP.

The problems mainly arose with the introduction of the new technical regulations and the new power unit supplied by Honda. The difficulties caused a series of failures and retirements in the first races of the championship, increasing the pressure on the British team.
Although Honda has already worked to minimize the vibration problems initially identified, there is still a long list of technical issues to be resolved before the package is considered competitive. As a result, Aston Martin admitted that it will need to ‘hold firm’ during the European phase of the season.
This situation is also expected to remain complicated for some time, as the team confirmed that there will be no major updates to the car before the category’s break in August. This means that Alonso and Stroll will have to deal with limited equipment compared to their rivals in the upcoming stages.
Mike Krack, Aston Martin’s Chief Trackside Operations Officer, stated that the internal environment remains motivated despite the negative results. However, the executive acknowledged that the drivers have faced considerable psychological wear due to the constant questions about the team’s poor form.

“The drivers are the ones who need the most protection, because you ask the same question every Thursday, Friday, Saturday, Sunday, and again the following week. So, for them, it is difficult to be repetitive and always give the same answer,” Krack said in Montreal.
He explained that Alonso and Stroll end up accumulating frustration by constantly being at the back of the starting grid: “We need to protect the drivers from this, because they accumulate this frustration of being behind in the pack,” he said.
Krack also stated that Aston Martin and Honda discussed a recovery plan early on, but acknowledged that significant changes take time in Formula 1: “We know our situation and have defined the necessary steps to improve, understanding that we need to take big steps and that, in Formula 1, you cannot achieve that during a season,” he added.
According to the executive, the focus now is to seek small evolutions throughout the championship to maintain internal motivation: “You need to motivate yourself by evolving race after race, event after event, and at the end of the season look back and say: ‘Ok, what did we manage to achieve?’,” Krack concluded.
