On Thursday (14), Pierre Gasly completed an important Pirelli test with Alpine at Magny-Cours focused on the development of Formula 1 rain tires for 2027. The French driver covered more than 900 kilometers over two days of activities on a wet track, using an adapted version of the 2026 season car.

The session marked another stage of the Italian supplier’s work to develop intermediate and heavy rain compounds that will be used in the future of the category. The French circuit offered conditions considered ideal by Pirelli, allowing engineers to collect consistent data and repeat different evaluation scenarios.
Magny-Cours, off the Formula 1 calendar since 2008, presented constantly wet asphalt during the activities. This enabled the manufacturer’s technicians to analyze tire behavior in controlled conditions, something seen as essential for the evolution of the compounds.
Gasly completed 103 laps just on the second day of testing, totaling 454 km covered. Adding the two sessions held with Alpine, the Frenchman exceeded the 900 km mark, a distance equivalent to about three full GPs of the category.

During the morning, the focus was on different solutions for heavy rain tires. In the afternoon, Pirelli directed the work towards some variants of the intermediate tire, expanding the database for the 2027 project.
On June 16 and 17, Pirelli will continue the development work at the Spanish circuit, but this time focusing on slick tires, as well as another wet track session at Magny-Cours, on a date yet to be defined.
