Lewis Hamilton revealed that he will adjust his preparation for the next stage of the Formula 1 season after his performance at the Miami GP did not meet expectations. On Sunday (3), he finished the race only in sixth place. The result came after a change in classification, as the Briton had crossed the finish line in seventh, but gained a position after a 20-second penalty was applied to Charles Leclerc.

In an interview after the race, Hamilton said he expected a better performance, but the result was affected by an incident with Alpine’s Franco Colapinto, which damaged his SF-26, as well as other points that still need to be fixed before the Canadian GP: “Yes, I will take a different approach in the next race, because the way we are preparing at the moment is not helping, and we will see how it goes in the next stage. But we are going to another track with long straights. We are losing three to four tenths just in straight-line speed. So that’s it. And it will continue like this until we fix it.”
The Briton also highlighted problems in the correlation between simulator and track. According to him, even with weeks of work before Miami, the car’s behavior did not repeat itself on the circuit: “In the end, it is always a matter of correlation… We work in the simulator and, when we get to the track, everything is always different. (…) You train, prepare for the track, drive and adjust the car in a certain way, then you get to the track and that setup doesn’t work.”

Hamilton is fifth in the Drivers’ World Championship, with 51 points earned so far.
