The Brit believes that victory was within reach, but a strategic decision ended up being decisive. The result reinforces how details can define the outcome in a balanced grid.
Norris took the lead after the safety car restart, but lost the position after being overtaken by Kimi Antonelli’s ‘undercut’ strategy from Mercedes. After the pit stop on lap 27, the McLaren driver returned behind his rival and could not react in the second half of the race.
“It was a mix of feelings. We suffered the ‘undercut’, there are no excuses beyond that,” he said. According to him, the team should have anticipated the stop to maintain the lead. “We should have stopped earlier. Kimi did a good job and so did Mercedes,” he added.

Even frustrated, Norris acknowledged the merit of his opponent and highlighted the difficulty of the race: “It was easy to make mistakes, but he didn’t make any that I could take advantage of,” he said, also explaining that factors such as heavy braking zones and energy management made the race even more challenging.
In the end, Norris valued the overall performance despite the missed opportunity: “I’m happy, but it’s frustrating to lose here, the win was possible. In the end, I didn’t have the pace to recover the position,” he concluded, emphasizing that both he and the team did a good job throughout the weekend.
