Formula 1 once again paid tribute to Alex Zanardi following the confirmation of his death at 59 years old. The category’s CEO, Stefano Domenicali, highlighted the human and sporting impact of the Italian.

The loss reinforces the magnitude of the legacy left by Zanardi, who became a reference for overcoming challenges both on and off the track. More than results, his story marked motorsport as an example of resilience and inspiration.
Former driver and also a four-time Paralympic gold medalist in handbike, Zanardi built a unique career. Even after losing both legs in a serious accident in 2001, he managed to return to the sport and continue competing at a high level, becoming a symbol of determination.
Domenicali emphasized this profile in his official message. “I am deeply saddened by the death of my dear friend Alex Zanardi. He was a truly inspiring person, both as a human being and as an athlete,” said the executive.

The Formula 1 CEO also highlighted the strength demonstrated by the Italian throughout his life. “He faced challenges that would have stopped anyone, but he kept looking forward, always with a smile and a determination that inspired all of us. Although his loss is deeply felt, his legacy remains strong,” he added.
Domenicali concluded the tribute by sending condolences to Zanardi’s family, including his wife Daniela and his son Niccolò, as well as to all who shared life with the Italian throughout his journey.
