The episode gained weight because Alex Albon advanced to SQ2 even under suspicion of violating track limits. The case analysis only occurred afterwards, which, in Lawson’s view, may have directly impacted the session’s result.
The Racing Bulls driver even returned to the car after weighing, given the possibility of being reinstated. Still, no change happened. “No, Alex exceeded the track limits, but I think they realized too late, and since he was already on the track…”, he said, showing frustration with the situation.

Lawson also said he does not understand how the case was handled by the stewards. “Honestly, I can’t understand how this is possible, but as far as we know, he literally exceeded the track limits and still advanced to SQ2,” he added.
Despite the controversy, the driver himself acknowledged problems throughout SQ1. A poor position at the pit exit compromised his preparation lap, and a strong lock-up in Turn 1 damaged the tires, harming his final attempt. Still, he highlighted progress in the car throughout the day and regretted the result.
