The situation caused some confusion in the pitlane, as Liam Lawson was seen quickly entering the Racing Bulls’ garage and suggesting something. The New Zealander did not go to SQ2, but the Williams regular was soon placed under investigation by the race direction.
Lawson ended up in 17th position and was one of the six drivers cut still in SQ1 in Miami. Meanwhile, Alex advanced in 16th, but shortly after, Liam was seen accelerating towards his car.

This generated speculation about a violation of track limits, with the Racing Bulls regular having a chance to return for the Formula 1 Sprint qualifying – no announcement was made and Albon continued while Liam was left out.
