Formula 1 arrives at the Miami GP with technical adjustments that raised doubts among teams and drivers. Now, the FIA has confirmed exactly how much energy can be recharged per lap during the weekend.

The definition is important because it directly impacts the performance of the cars, especially in how drivers manage the power unit throughout a lap. Despite previously announced changes, Miami will have different limits than initially expected.
The entity clarified that there was no overall reduction in the recharge limit. For Miami, drivers will be able to use up to 9 MJ per lap in the race and also in FP1, while in Q1, Q2, and Q3 the limit will be 8 MJ. With the overtaking system active in the Sprint and the race, the maximum value can also reach 9 MJ, while without it it remains at 8.5 MJ.
The confusion arose after the FIA announced a possible reduction from 8 MJ to 7 MJ, aiming to reduce excessive energy recovery use and favor faster laps at a steady pace. However, the entity explained that this reduction is not mandatory for all events and may be applied only at specific circuits.

For Miami, the stewards chose to maintain the original limits, as the expectation is for only about two seconds of super clipping per lap. On tracks where this effect is more significant, the reduction may be applied.
Additionally, there were changes in the way power delivery is managed along the track. In Miami, between turns 1 and 8, drivers will have a limit of 250 kW of extra energy, while in sections like the straight to turn 11 and the back straight, they can use up to 350 kW. These variations promise to directly influence lap strategy on the American street circuit.
