The 2026 Formula 1 season remains challenging for Williams. Even with potential in the FW48, Alexander Albon made it clear that the team’s recovery will not be immediate.

The scenario is a consequence of a complicated start, with delays in car development and structural problems that still impact performance. Excess weight and reliability issues have limited progress in the early stages.
The team has struggled since pre-season and faced significant setbacks in races. Carlos Sainz was unable to participate in the qualifying session in Australia, while Albon did not start in China. In Japan, the FW48 faced energy usage problems, leading the British-Thai driver to treat the race as a test, with several trips to the pits.

Even so, Albon believes there is clear room for improvement throughout the season: “It will be difficult, there are many things to fix on the car, but there is potential to progress. It won’t happen overnight, it will be race by race,” he said.
He also indicated that updates are already planned, including a package for the Miami GP, although without expectations of an immediate transformation: “It will improve, but it won’t be miraculous. The goal is to return to the midfield battle and then advance within that group,” Albon concluded, highlighting that the team expects to finish the season with a car very different from the current one.
