Formula 1 may have an alternative solution for the calendar affected by two race cancellations this year. Silverstone has made itself available to host more than one race in the season, should further rounds be removed.

This proposal comes after the cancellation of the Bahrain and Saudi Arabia GPs, motivated by the conflict in Iran, which created a five-week gap between the Japanese GP and the Miami GP. There are still uncertainties about future races in the Middle East, including Azerbaijan, Qatar, and Abu Dhabi.
The CEO of the British circuit, Stuart Pringle, confirmed that the offer has already been made to the category: “We have already offered, because we helped during the pandemic and we can do it again. If necessary, we are ready,” he said. He highlighted that, despite logistical challenges, the circuit has the capacity to react quickly.

Silverstone has already hosted two races in the same season during the COVID-19 period, as have Austria and Bahrain. Even with a normally full calendar, Pringle assured flexibility to accommodate F1 in an emergency scenario: “I don’t usually have free dates, but everything can be adjusted in a crisis,” he added.
Despite the initiative, Formula 1 remains cautious before making any decision. The category’s communications director, Liam Parker, emphasized the unpredictability of the situation: “The scenario changes every day, no one knows what will happen in the coming months,” he said. The trend, however, is that Silverstone’s offer will not be used, at least for now.
