This image, created by illustrator Matt Taylor, features elements linked to Sega and the character Sonic, which quickly generated theories among fans. Many believe the design indicates a possible special livery inspired by Ayrton Senna’s historic victory in 1993, at the Donington Park circuit.
The clues come from hidden details in the art, including the silhouette of the McLaren MP4/8 model, driven by Senna that season. The presence of Sonic and the traditional golden rings reinforces the connection with Sega, which sponsored the 1993 European GP, dominantly won by the Brazilian after a remarkable start.

On social media, fans’ reaction was immediate, with direct requests for a special livery: “Will there be a Sonic-themed livery?”, questioned one fan, while another wrote: “McLaren with Sonic, please!”. There were also those who highlighted the historical reference: “Loved the Donington 93 reminder.”
Despite the excitement, the British team has not yet confirmed any visual changes for the Miami round. The partnership with Sega, however, is official, and the race in the United States will mark McLaren’s thousandth GP in Formula 1, which increases anticipation for a possible special action.
