Fernando Alonso’s performance during his time at Ferrari has once again become a topic of discussion in the Formula 1 paddock. For former category driver Jolyon Palmer, the Spaniard reached a level rarely seen with the Italian team.

Palmer stated that the period between 2010 and 2014 was the closest to perfection he had ever witnessed. In that interval, Alonso came very close to the title on two occasions, including 2012, when he competed until the end even with a car inferior to Red Bull Racing’s.
The former driver particularly highlighted the Spaniard’s ability to anticipate situations on track: “The Alonso of those Ferrari years is, for me, the closest we have ever seen to perfection, especially in 2012,” he stated. He also praised the consistency and the complete package presented by the driver during that period.

Furthermore, the Briton recalled his own experience facing Alonso during his time at McLaren with Honda engines. According to him, the Spaniard operated at a superior level, even against opponents confident in their abilities.
“It was as if he could predict the future sometimes. I was proud of my performance since GP2, but racing against him, I learned some lessons,” Palmer added, reinforcing his admiration for the two-time champion, who continues to compete in Formula 1 even after so many years in his career.
