Traditionally, teams introduce major updates at the Miami GP, the first stage after the intense start of the season. However, this year’s calendar, which saw the Bahrain and Saudi Arabian GPs canceled due to the war in the Middle East, combined with new energy rules, should change this scenario and push important new developments further ahead.
According to Russell, the trend is for Mercedes’ focus to be on the Canadian GP, where the team intends to present more significant advancements: “Normally Miami is the race for the first major updates, but with this year’s calendar, that has shifted to Montreal,” he said.
The Briton highlighted that the team is in a strong moment after winning the first three races of the season, including his triumph in Australia. Still, he recognizes that the balance may shift as new parts are introduced by competing teams.

“Montreal could be where we see some change, should someone manage to close the gap to us, and we have some things saved to bring to Canada,” Russell added, showing caution regarding the technical dispute.
Furthermore, he commented on the impact of the new rules, emphasizing the complexity for those in the car: “The new rules have brought exciting races, but they are quite complicated for the drivers. The FIA has done a good job to improve this, and I hope we continue to be at the front,” he concluded.
