Andrea Stella has shown interest in a possible increase in the superclipping charge limit for the 2026 Formula 1 season. The McLaren boss’s main objective is to address a threat to driver safety.

Throughout the month of April, a month without races on the calendar, a series of meetings will be held with the FIA to discuss specific adjustments to this year’s regulations to try to resolve the problems seen in the first three rounds.
Superclipping has been one of the main points of debate – this is a method of recharging the battery while still accelerating with straight-line mode activated, but the system has a maximum power of 250 kW, with cars capable of producing 350 kW.
The first meeting already took place last Thursday, April 9, and the governing body has already revealed that more meetings will be held. Another discussion takes place on April 16 and then, on April 20, a high-level summit takes place in the hope that decisions will be made regarding the implementation of rule changes for the Miami Grand Prix.

Speaking about the meeting, Stella reiterated the demand that an increase in the superclipping limit be considered. “I think we need to look at the data and the teams should share information about what happened with [Franco] Colapinto and Oliver Bearman,” he said.
“The reason for adding a 350 kW superclipping is that we would like to prevent drivers from having to lift off and let the car coast, because if that happens, the speed difference with the car behind will be even greater. It is a case that must be studied with a certain level of analysis, and I don’t think there is a simple solution, but we have the experience, the engineers, and the necessary variables to implement it,” he continued.
“I believe this will be analyzed in the meetings with the FIA, the teams, and F1 during the break, and, as I have said before, it should be a top priority. It is difficult for me to say that we should do this simply, because, as I already mentioned, it may be a necessary combination of factors and not something so simple,” he concluded.
