Formula 1 is experiencing a new moment of tension following rumors about a possible departure of Max Verstappen at the end of the season. Red Bull, however, sought to cool the matter and guaranteed that the focus is entirely on performance on the track.

Speculation gained strength after a difficult start to the championship for the four-time champion, who has only 12 points in the first three stages. The scenario raises doubts about the driver’s future precisely amidst constant criticism of the category’s new regulations.
Since the beginning of the year, Verstappen has demonstrated dissatisfaction with the technical changes in Formula 1, especially with the increase in electrification in the hybrid power units. The new concept, based on V6 engines with a balanced split between combustion and electrical parts, does not please the Dutchman.
Furthermore, the Red Bull driver has never hidden that he is not driven by records and statistics, which reinforces the possibility of seeking new challenges outside the category. Among the alternatives, he has been involved with other competitions, such as the NLS championship, where he finds a different environment more aligned with his interests.
After finishing only in eighth place at the Japanese GP, Verstappen indicated that he intends to take advantage of the one-month break until the Miami stage to reflect on his future. The statement was interpreted as the strongest sign yet that a departure from Formula 1 may be under consideration.
Despite this, Red Bull team principal Laurent Mekies downplayed any immediate concern. According to him, the priority is clear: to recover the car’s competitiveness and return the driver to conditions to fight at the front.

“We are fully focused on competitiveness, that’s what we work on,” Mekies stated. “There are no discussions about other aspects at this time. We have a lot of work to do, and when we deliver a fast car, we will have a much happier Max.”
The official also highlighted that the team believes the driver’s mood is directly linked to the equipment’s performance. “When he has a car with which he can attack and make a difference, it will be a more satisfied Max,” he added.
Regarding the regulations, Mekies acknowledged that there are positive points and challenges, indicating that teams should discuss possible adjustments during the championship break. Still, he made it clear that this is not the main focus at the moment.
With this, Red Bull tries to contain any speculation and keep Verstappen focused on the season. Performance in the next races should be decisive in defining not only the championship dispute but also the future of one of the biggest names in Formula 1 today.
