Lando Norris positively evaluated his performance in the Sprint qualifying for the Formula 1 Chinese GP, where he secured third position on the grid for Saturday’s Sprint race.

The McLaren driver stated he was satisfied with the lap he completed, and considers that the result represented the maximum he could achieve in the session: “It was a positive Sprint qualifying. I was happy with the lap and third place is probably the best we could have achieved today,” said Norris.
He also highlighted the fact of finishing ahead of both Ferrari cars, something he wasn’t sure would be possible after the weekend’s only free practice: “Being ahead of the two Ferraris is a positive thing. After free practice, I wasn’t sure if that would be possible.”

Thinking about the Sprint race, Norris believes the first few corners could offer the best opportunity to try and gain positions, although he acknowledges the strength of the competitors: “Tomorrow we will do our best to maximize our result in the Sprint race. The first lap is the best opportunity to overtake, but we know the competition is strong,” he added.
After the short race, the team’s focus will be on the qualifying session to define the grid for Sunday’s GP: “After that, we will turn our attention to the qualifying session in the afternoon,” Norris added.
