Fernando Alonso has not yet decided whether he will continue in Formula 1 with Aston Martin in 2027, but he made it clear that he does not intend to rush the decision-making process. The Spaniard stated that, at this moment, ‘there is no urgency’ to define his next steps.
Aston Martin wants to keep the two-time world champion next year and is awaiting his decision, while Alonso is evaluating whether he can be satisfied with the cars for the next season. The team is going through a very difficult year, with the AMR26 being uncompetitive and only three points scored, all by Alonso.
When asked about the need for Aston Martin to receive an answer soon to organize next season’s planning, Alonso replied that he sees no reason to hurry: “Of course, of course. Some other drivers on the grid were visiting Lawrence (Stroll, Aston Martin owner) in the summer, but there is no urgency,” he told the press.
The Spaniard explained that his decision will depend, in part, on the impact of the 2027 rules on the driving experience. Alonso highlighted that the current cars are not among the most enjoyable to drive, but he expects a positive change next season.

“It’s a matter of understanding whether next year’s rules will have an impact or not on the racing and the driving side. The current cars, as I have said many times, are not the best to drive and enjoy, but next year, there will be a step in the right direction, I hope,” he added.
Besides the possibility of continuing behind the wheel, Alonso is also considering taking on another role within Aston Martin: “At the same time, I need to think about what is the best program for next year and sit down with the team. Whether it’s behind the wheel or in another role, I will be helping more. That will be the most important thing for us to decide together,” he concluded.
