Jack Doohan will have a new opportunity to show his potential in Formula 1, testing for Haas in Jerez next week. The Australian will participate in a session that could be important for deciding one of the team’s seats for 2027.

Haas will conduct a two-day test with cars from previous years (TPC) on September 14 and 15, putting three drivers on track. Besides Doohan, Ryo Hirakawa and Sho Tsuboi will also participate in the activity, both nominated by the Toyota Gazoo Racing driver program.
This will be Doohan’s return to an F1 cockpit since his stint with Alpine, which ended after last year’s Miami GP. The Australian competed in seven races for the Enstone team in 2025 before being replaced by Franco Colapinto, and now will have the chance to impress Haas boss Ayao Komatsu.
The activity takes place amid uncertainty about Haas’s second driver for 2027. If Komatsu decides not to keep Esteban Ocon, Doohan is among the five names considered by the team to fill the seat.

Another name gaining strength in Haas tests is Brazilian Rafael Câmara. The Formula 3 champion recently participated in an activity with Haas in Portimão alongside Hirakawa and Leonardo Fornaroli, McLaren’s reserve, and insider information points out that the Brazilian was the highlight of the test, becoming the main candidate if Ocon does not stay.
Hirakawa is also still in the running. The Japanese driver is Haas’s other reserve driver, has participated in two TL1 sessions this season, and has Toyota’s interest in placing him on the F1 grid. Rumors involving Yuki Tsunoda are considered unfounded, and the Japanese driver is reportedly out of the team’s plans.
Despite these assessments, Haas is not in a hurry to make a decision. Komatsu recently stated that there is no urgency to define the future of the seat, while the driver market has lost momentum after some important announcements.
