Pierre Gasly still has not come to terms with losing third place at the 2026 Monaco Grand Prix in Formula 1. After the FIA International Court of Appeal (ICA) reinstated the two five-second penalties he received during the race, the Alpine driver stated that he believes the team is being “robbed” and indicated that the dispute may not be over.

“I think we are being robbed, and I don’t believe this will stop here. It was very clear, the speed we had in the pit lane, and there are many interpretations and legal battles being fought in offices over points that go beyond what happens in the sport,” Gasly told Canal+.
The situation began when Gasly was penalized twice for speeding in the pit lane during the Monaco race. Alpine initially managed to overturn the penalties after a review request, after an error was found in measuring the length of the pit lane.
The issue was not known to the stewards at the time of the race, when other drivers were also penalized, including Oscar Piastri. However, McLaren was unable to appeal the Australian’s penalty because the regulations do not provide a mechanism to undo the effects of a penalty already served.
Gasly had a different situation. He did not serve the 10-second penalty by stopping in the pits, letting the time be added to his final race result, something drivers usually do.

After reviewing the case last month, the ICA, the highest legal authority in motorsport under the FIA (International Automobile Federation), decided to restore the two penalties and returned Gasly to seventh place.
Alpine had accepted the decision, but Flavio Briatore, the team’s executive consultant, harshly criticized one of the panel’s judges, accusing him of favoring McLaren, and indicated that further measures could be taken. The team can still submit a request to review the ICA decision if new evidence emerges that was not available during the hearing.
Gasly made it clear that, for him, the on-track result should prevail: “And that is sad, to see results being decided as a consequence of this kind of event. On the track, we finished third. Then there was another twist. Anyway, I will let my team take care of the rest. I did everything I could on the track, and now it’s up to them to do what is necessary. I have confidence in that.”
With the ICA decision, Gasly dropped from third to seventh position. The podium now features Isack Hadjar in third, while Oscar Piastri finished fourth, Liam Lawson fifth, and Arvid Lindblad sixth.
