Kimi Antonelli wants to keep expectations high for his home race at the Italian GP of Formula 1, even knowing that he will have to serve a penalty for changing the power unit.

The ‘home hero’ will have to start from the back of the pack due to a completely new power unit, of the same specification, in his component set. After 12 rounds, he has already used the limit of four internal combustion engines [ICE], as well as three batteries and three electronic control units, plus four exhausts. He is also at the limit for the turbocharger and the MGU-K.
“Obviously, arriving at Monza [with the] engine penalty, I still think it is the best track to serve it. Of course, it is my home race and all, but I think it is the best race to do this,” he said.
“So, I believe I will still have the chance to achieve a great result and score good points,” he continued.

Toto Wolff, Mercedes’ head in Formula 1, had previously said that according to team simulations, Monza was the best track for this penalty. “Our theory and calculations indicate that this is the best track to serve it,” he explained.
“Obviously, algorithms do not take nationality into account when we are competing in a championship and want the maximum image return; so, that is what we will do.”
