Aston Martin once again endured a Formula 1 classification outside Q2. This Saturday (22) at the Dutch GP, Fernando Alonso and Lance Stroll failed to advance past the first phase of qualifying.

The two-time Spanish champion managed only 18th place on the starting grid for the race in Zandvoort. But even with the result, he managed to see positive points from the session. “We were very close to making it to Q2 and practically extracted the maximum from what we had in hand,” he assessed.
“We have work to do to improve the car’s drivability and gain more lap time from now on. Overall, I think we should be satisfied to be 1.3 seconds behind the leader in Q1, when just a few races ago, we were on average 4 seconds behind the top teams. Let’s see what we can do tomorrow and enjoy our last race here in Zandvoort,” he continued.

Meanwhile, the Canadian starts 19th at the Dutch GP, seeing points that still need improvement in the team, despite seeing progress. “We faced similar problems today as yesterday.”
“We need to make improvements in the car’s drivability and balance, and that is what we should focus on. Our race pace seems to be better than qualifying pace. In qualifying, we need to be able to push more to really attack the lap. But we are evolving, working hard, and will continue striving to take another step forward,” he concluded.
