In the earlier Sprint race, the competitor started from second place, but in the final part of the race was overtaken by Charles Leclerc and finished third. Although satisfied, he admitted it was not the ideal result.

Now, in the qualifying session at Zandvoort, the current F1 champion finished much happier. “It can’t get any better than this; honestly, I’m even a bit surprised. It was a very good lap; I was pushing the pace, as you saw, the competition is tight and every hundredth can make a difference,” he said.

“It was a good recovery compared to the start, when I felt we were having a bit of difficulty,” he continued.

“We needed to try something different, since what we had before was not enough; so, we made some small adjustments to give me more confidence,” he added.
