The saga about Carlos Sainz’s future in Formula 1 has finally come to an end. This Wednesday (19), Williams announced the renewal of the Spanish driver with a multi-year contract.

The ‘Smooth Operator’ joined the British team in the 2025 season after his farewell to Ferrari. And although he was unable to fight for wins, the competitor managed two unexpected podiums with the Grove-based team, which finished fifth in the Constructors’ Championship.
“I am very happy to announce the continuation of my journey with the Williams team family. I truly believe in the people who make up this team, both at the factory and on the tracks, as well as in the investments and hard work being done behind the scenes,” he said.
“We have what it takes to change this scenario together. I am as committed as on day one to help bring Williams back to where it belongs, and I look forward to creating more memories with the team,” he continued.
The announcement of Sainz’s stay with Williams in Formula 1 comes one day after the confirmation that Alexander Albon will also continue with the British team colors for the 2027 season.

James Vowles, the team principal in F1, stated that “since he arrived, Carlos’s talent behind the wheel and his dedication at the factory have been extremely valuable to this project, working day after day with his engineers to gain every millisecond. He is a leader of this team, and I am very pleased that he sees what is possible to achieve as we continue to rebuild it.”

The continuation of the four-time GP winner in Formula 1 had been in question. Several teams were pointed out as possible paths, including Audi – but Gabriel Bortoleto had already made it clear that his contract with the team is for 2027 and beyond.
