Cadillac CEO Dan Towriss denied that the team is considering Rafael Câmara for a seat in the 2027 Formula 1 season, but acknowledged that the situation could still change. According to him, the rumors about the Brazilian have no basis at this time.

The possibility was reported during the Hungarian GP weekend, indicating that the team was monitoring Ferrari’s junior driver for a potential promotion to the category next year. Câmara has been standing out in his debut season in Formula 2, after winning the Formula 3 title last year.
The Brazilian has won two races and secured four of the last six pole positions in F2, results that placed him third in the championship, 22 points behind leader Nikola Tsolov. A potential arrival at Cadillac would mean the departure of one of the current drivers, Sergio Perez or, more likely, Valtteri Bottas, who has been slightly slower than his teammate.
When asked about the possibility of Câmara joining the team in 2027, Towriss said that bringing in a young driver is being considered, but denied that there is anything concrete: “I know there are some rumors about young drivers, but those rumors have no basis, so it’s not something I would focus on. We are not focused on that at this moment,” he said.

However, the executive avoided treating the team lineup for 2027 as a definitive decision: “It’s Formula 1, and things can always change. There are no planned changes at this moment for 2027, but things can always change,” he added.
During the same interview, Marcin Budkowski was also asked if hiring Câmara could strengthen Cadillac’s relationship with Ferrari, the power unit supplier. The new team principal did not answer directly and preferred to talk about how Cadillac intends to maximize the potential of its powertrain package.
