“This is not the reality I want to see, but you can’t escape it; there have already been some races where the story repeated itself. In qualifying: 12th, 13th, behind Racing Bulls and Audi. In the race, you might even think that maybe we will manage to get there, and I do see them, but it’s a matter of pure pace: we simply don’t have the necessary performance,” he said.

“Besides that, the feeling when driving is not good; the car doesn’t react at all the way I would like and doesn’t allow me to drive the way I need. There is a lot to fix,” he continued.

The first race that resumes the F1 season is in Zandvoort, where Alpine will bring upgrades. “I think the aerodynamics are very inconsistent; it’s something we are aware of and hope will be fixed in Zandvoort. That’s the standard in Formula 1: when you bring upgrades, you expect the situation to actually improve. From my side, I don’t doubt that the package will deliver what the team expects,” he concluded.
