Red Bull Racing received praise from Guenther Steiner for hiring Gwen Lagrue, a professional who left Mercedes to take on a new challenge with the team. For the former Haas boss, the arrival represents an important move for the team’s plans to develop future talents in Formula 1.

Lagrue gained prominence at Mercedes for his work identifying young drivers, having been involved in discovering names who later reached the category, such as George Russell and Kimi Antonelli. The hiring comes after a series of departures of key members of Red Bull’s leadership structure.
In a participation on the Red Flags podcast, Steiner said he was surprised by Lagrue’s decision to leave Mercedes, especially because of the relationship the professional built within the team: “I was quite surprised that he is leaving Mercedes. They, Red Bull, must have made a very good offer, because he is very close to the people there,” he said.
Steiner also highlighted Lagrue’s accumulated experience in evaluating young drivers and his knowledge of the different junior categories. In the former Haas boss’s view, this background can represent an important advantage for Red Bull in the search for new talents.

“I think he is excellent at identifying talents and knowing what is happening in all categories. Gwen has been doing this longer than anyone else. So, he has this advantage and knows what to look for,” he added.
The former Haas boss also described the hiring as a very positive move for Red Bull, highlighting its long-term potential: “Absolutely, it was a very good hire by Laurent to bring Gwen there thinking about the future,” he concluded.
