Fernando Alonso had a start to the Formula 1 Australian GP that was quite far from what can be considered ideal. During the two practice sessions, the Spaniard completed few laps, even being absent from the first session in Melbourne.

The situation that Aston Martin has been facing at the start of the 2026 season is quite complicated. With severe vibration, the team doesn’t even know how many laps they will be able to complete in Sunday’s race before retiring to avoid harming the drivers.
And in the first practice sessions at Albert Park, the two-time champion had engine problems and did not run in FP1. In the second session, he once again completed few laps, which he knows is not ideal.

“We didn’t complete many laps today, as we had problems with the power unit. We need to learn as much as possible about this car and we need more laps for that. We have a big challenge to improve our reliability and performance, but everyone is working hard to improve our situation.”
