The FIA paid tribute to Zdenek Chovanek after the death of the former Formula 3 driver at 21 years old. The news caused commotion in motorsport, with the sport’s governing body expressing solidarity with the competitor’s family and friends.

Chovanek competed in Formula 3 in the 2021 and 2022 seasons. The former driver of Czech, Portuguese, and Venezuelan nationalities built his career in international motorsport’s junior categories before his career was prematurely interrupted.
In a social media post, the FIA lamented the loss of the driver: “The FIA is deeply saddened by the passing of Zdeněk Chovanec, who competed in the FIA Formula 3 Championship in 2021 and 2022. Our thoughts and sincerest condolences are with Zdeněk’s family and friends,” the entity stated in its publication.
Chovanek’s single-seater career began in 2020. That year, he competed in the UAE Formula 4 with Xcel Motorsport, finishing the championship in seventh position, with 88 points and two podiums in 19 races. He also participated in Italian Formula 4 with Bhaitech, finishing 17th after scoring 18 points in 14 races.

In 2021, the driver advanced to higher categories, combining participations in Euroformula Open, Formula 3, and Asian F3. With Double R Racing, he scored 33 points in Euroformula Open and finished the season in 15th place.
In the same year, he competed in eight Formula 3 races with Charouz Racing System, without scoring points. He also participated in two Asian F3 races with BlackArts Racing, scoring two points and finishing the championship in 18th place.
Chovanek returned to Formula 3 in 2022, again with Charouz, for four more races, but never had a chance to try and reach Formula 1. Outside of F3, he had his best moment in the BOSS GP Series Formula Class, where he achieved five wins, five pole positions, and six podiums in six races. His last participation in single-seaters was in 2023, in the Ultimate Cup Series Proto P3, ending a brief but remarkable career in motorsport.
