Isack Hadjar admitted that he was a bit ‘lost’ trying to understand what Red Bull’s strategy was at the Belgian Grand Prix in Formula 1 after starting from the back of the pack.

As soon as the start was authorized at Spa-Francorchamps, George Russell was involved in an accident and ended up in the gravel trap, triggering the safety car. At that point, Hadjar made two stops: one to take off the hard tires and on the next lap to go back on the hard compound, going until the end of the race without making another pit visit.

“I was a bit lost with the pit stops, but, you know, I trust the team. And after a few laps, I really understood why we did that; I have to admit it took me a little while to assimilate. But the result was good and I think the pace was very strong with the hard tires in that second stint; I was very satisfied, so there wasn’t much to improve today,” he said.

“It’s frustrating, because I feel that if I had done the weekend without penalties, we would be fighting for the podium, considering the pace. It’s a shame. In a way, it’s surprising, because I didn’t think a track like this would suit us, but I’m not surprised by my own performance and by finally being able to have a strong race pace with a clear track. Silverstone was extremely frustrating for me, not being able to show the pace and ending up kind of isolated on the track,” he added.
