Franco Colapinto spoke out on social media after Argentina’s defeat to Spain in the 2026 World Cup final. The Alpine driver paid tribute to the 2022 world champion generation and thanked the players for the victorious cycle experienced by the Argentine national team in recent years.
In a series of Instagram stories, Colapinto shared images of Argentina’s recent major achievements, including the 2022 World Cup and Copa América titles, as well as a photo of Lionel Messi wearing the silver medal won in this Sunday’s final.
In the first post, the driver wrote:
“Grateful and proud. Thank you very much! You always kept Argentina at the highest level.”

Next, Colapinto shared an image of Messi after the final and again thanked the Argentine captain.
“For the joys you gave us. Thank you, thank you, thank you.”
Argentina was defeated 1-0 by Spain in extra time in the 2026 World Cup final, ending the attempt to win back-to-back championships. Even with the runner-up finish, the team closes one of the most successful periods in its recent history, with the 2022 world title and the continental achievements that consolidated a generation led by Lionel Messi.
Colapinto was the first Argentine Formula 1 driver to comment on the final result. While Spaniards Fernando Alonso and Carlos Sainz celebrated La Furia’s second championship on social media, the Alpine driver preferred to highlight pride in the Argentine national team’s journey and thank the players for the achievements reached over the past years.
