Lewis Hamilton was cleared by the stewards and kept the fourth place he earned at the Belgian Grand Prix of Formula 1 this Sunday (19). The investigation for an unsafe release during his pit stop ended with a fine for Ferrari, with no impact on the driver’s result.

The incident happened during Hamilton’s only pit stop, carried out under a virtual safety car regime. Before the tire change, the Briton served a five-second penalty received for contact with George Russell on the first lap of the race.
After receiving the green light to leave the pits, Hamilton took off while a mechanic was still trying to adjust the front wing flap. The driver ended up hitting the team member, but the incident did not cause serious injuries.

The stewards reviewed the case after the race and decided not to apply any sporting penalty to the seven-time world champion. Instead, Ferrari was held responsible for the unsafe release and received a fine of 30,000 euros. Of this total, 10,000 euros will be suspended for a period of twelve months, provided the team does not commit a similar infraction during this interval.
With the decision, Hamilton preserves the fourth place obtained at Spa-Francorchamps and also the second position in the drivers’ championship.
