F1: Leclerc minimizes Ferrari's favoritism in Monaco despite Norris's praise

Charles Leclerc rejected the idea that Ferrari is the big favorite for the Monaco GP, despite acknowledging that the track layout could favor the SF-26. The discussion began after the Canadian GP, when Lando Norris placed Ferrari among the main candidates for pole position in Monaco. The McLaren driver highlighted the Italian team’s good performance in low-speed corners.

“Monaco was a track that worked well for us last year. Honestly, I think Ferrari will take pole next weekend in Monaco, because their low-speed performance is much better than everyone else’s,” Norris stated.

In response, Leclerc adopted caution: “We are in a better position. If there’s one track where I would bet on us, it’s probably Monaco. However, I still believe Mercedes had a significant advantage from the start of the year, so I think they will be very strong. I think McLaren will also be very strong. I think Red Bull will be very strong… But Mercedes, I still believe, will continue to be the team to beat.”

The Monegasque also highlighted that the circuit could reduce Ferrari’s weaknesses on the straights, but reinforced that the battle will remain balanced among the top teams. Leclerc also commented on his simulator preparation after being asked about Lewis Hamilton’s approach. He stated that he does not intend to change his routine.

“This doesn’t affect my preparation at all. For me, the simulator has worked very well since I arrived in Formula 1. I’m not going to change that.”

According to the driver, the simulator is also important in the development of the Ferrari car, influencing adjustments and updates throughout the season.
