“I think it’s fun to drive these cars,” Alonso said in a conversation with the press during Thursday (16) media activities at the Belgian GP. “If you compared it with the previous generation of cars, I would say no, because they were very different and had a purely aggressive mode. And driving at the limit of the cars, physics, and pushing the tires to the max, and all that kind of thing – we don’t do that anymore.”

Despite the changes, Alonso said his motivation remains the same when fighting for positions on the track: “But I like to compete and I like to race against the rest of the grid,” he said. “So, when I close the visor, I really don’t notice anything new in the rules. I’m just fighting against the car next to me. And I’m still having fun and still like what I do.”

The driver also highlighted that the battle with other competitors is the main factor that keeps his satisfaction in Formula 1. “If I were alone on the track, I probably wouldn’t like driving these cars very much. But because I’m with 21 other cars, I like it a lot.”
