Red Bull Racing may use its controversial rear wing at the Belgian Grand Prix of Formula 1, despite the incidents involving Max Verstappen in recent stages. The FIA has not yet made a definitive decision on the component, and while the investigation is ongoing, the equipment is authorized for use at Spa-Francorchamps.

The so-called ‘Macarena’ concept, also used by Ferrari, is being analyzed by the highest motorsport authority. The focus of the investigation is exclusively the safety of the system, and not a possible violation of the technical regulations.
In recent weeks, FIA representatives have held talks with Red Bull and Ferrari to obtain more information about the operation of the movable rear wings. The system rotates on straights to reduce aerodynamic drag and must return completely to the original position before entering corners.
The investigation gained momentum after the problems faced by Verstappen at the Austrian and British GPs. On both occasions, the RB22’s rear wing did not fully return to the expected position, causing a sudden loss of rear aerodynamic downforce in high-speed corners and leading the Dutchman to run off the track.
At Silverstone, the situation was especially concerning. Verstappen even described the problem as ‘a life-threatening issue’ after getting stuck in the gravel trap following a loss of control of the car at high speed.

According to information obtained from GPblog, the FIA requested additional technical data from both teams to assess whether the concept operates safely under all circumstances. So far, however, the entity has found no reason to prevent its use during the Belgian weekend.
Alongside the investigation, Red Bull is working internally to fix the fault that affected Verstappen in the last two stages. The team’s expectation is to arrive at Spa with a correction implemented, avoiding a repeat of the problems that compromised the four-time world champion’s performance.
Thus, the rear wing will remain available for use at the Belgian GP, at least until the FIA completes its analysis. The traditional Spa-Francorchamps circuit will therefore be another important test for the aerodynamic concept that has become one of the most debated topics of the 2026 Formula 1 season.
