Rumors about a possible transfer of Max Verstappen to McLaren have gained strength again behind the scenes in Formula 1. Despite the speculations involving the four-time world champion and the current constructors’ champion, there is no confirmation of an agreement between the parties.

The British site PlanetF1 reported this Monday (13) that McLaren would be in “advanced negotiations with Verstappen for a possible move to Woking in the 2027 F1 season.” The publication, however, did not reveal its source and stated that the driver would be “in the final phase” of contract talks.
The possibility had also been reported by GPblog the previous week. The site reported paddock rumors about a possible move of Verstappen to the British team, possibly as a replacement for Oscar Piastri, but emphasized that there was no confirmation of an ongoing agreement.
After the first news, GPblog continued listening to Formula 1 sources and found that, although the rumors remained, an immediate move seemed unlikely. According to the site, there were talks between McLaren CEO Zak Brown and Verstappen’s staff, but a partnership would be considered only for the years after 2027.

Despite the speculations, Verstappen’s future remains undefined. According to GPblog sources, staying at Red Bull Racing or even ending his Formula 1 career after one more season appear as the most likely options.
A transfer to McLaren after the current season cannot be completely ruled out yet, as Formula 1 often presents unexpected twists. However, the most likely scenario is that Verstappen has not yet made a final decision about his future.
