Max Verstappen admitted that he needs a few days to regain focus after his retirement at the British Grand Prix in Formula 1, in yet another chapter of a difficult season for Red Bull Racing. The four-time world champion is experiencing a moment of growing frustration, worsened by new reliability issues and the RB22’s performance far below expectations.

The situation increases the pressure on the team, precisely at a time of speculation about the Dutchman’s future. Besides the competitiveness difficulties, the successive mechanical problems fuel doubts about Verstappen’s stay, whose contract has clauses related to sporting performance.
In the last two rounds, the RB22’s rear wing failed at crucial moments. The first problem occurred during qualifying in Austria, compromising his starting grid position. At Silverstone, the part failed again during the race, forcing the driver to retire after managing to avoid a more serious accident.
After the race, Verstappen described the failure as unsafe and made it clear that the moment requires a change of scenario. Showing discouragement with the sequence of events, he said: “You would have to be a very zen person to be optimistic at this moment, after what happened again this weekend.”

The Dutch driver also acknowledged that he needs to temporarily step away from the team environment before returning to activities: “Sorry, but that’s how it is. I think I need a few days to reorganize myself and try again,” he told journalists.
Despite speculation about a possible departure from Red Bull, Verstappen made a point of defending the work done internally: “Everyone is giving their best. I’m not blaming one person or another. It’s painful for everyone that this is happening,” he added.
The retirement at Silverstone left the Dutchman with 76 points in the drivers’ championship, far from the leaders. According to the presented scenario, even a maximum score in the remaining races before the category’s break in August would hardly place him among the top two in the standings, a condition that, according to his contract, could allow the activation of an exit clause at the end of 2026. Meanwhile, team principal Laurent Mekies will have the mission to recover Red Bull’s competitiveness and contain the growing dissatisfaction of its main driver.
