Max Verstappen celebrated the result obtained in qualifying for the Monaco F1 GP and admitted to being surprised by Red Bull’s performance. The Dutchman secured a place on the front row of the starting grid after a Saturday that began with difficulties for the team.

According to the four-time champion, the problems faced in the morning did not indicate that the team would be able to fight for the top positions. Therefore, finishing the decisive session among the top two was considered a very positive result.
“I am very happy with my performance. If someone had told me yesterday that we would be on the front row, I would have accepted it immediately. It was a surprise, because this morning we had some difficulties with the car. Finishing on the front row is extremely positive,” he stated.
Verstappen also highlighted the challenges posed by current cars, which, according to him, demand more precision from drivers than in previous seasons. The Dutchman explained that power delivery, handling, and gear changes have made driving more delicate, but also more rewarding when everything works perfectly.

“The cars are a bit more difficult to control than in recent years. When you manage a clean lap and can drive on the limit, it’s a very good and rewarding feeling. This is the most important session of the weekend and I’m happy to be where we are,” he added.
Thinking about Sunday’s race, Verstappen emphasized the importance of the start and warned of the challenges he will face right behind. “It is crucial to get a good start. Things can get complicated and I have two cars behind me that usually start very well. Let’s see what happens. A lot can happen, so it’s still all open,” he concluded.
