The 2026 Monaco GP weekend marks the return of Formula 1 to the principality and the start of the European part of the championship. Being one of the most traditional and emblematic stages of the calendar, the race in Monte Carlo is seen as one of the most unpredictable by Mercedes boss Toto Wolff.

“Monaco remains one of the most important races on the F1 calendar. There is a lot of history and ceremony around the event, but none of that changes our work. We need to evolve during the practice sessions and be in a position to deliver results when it really matters,” said Toto.
He also highlighted the importance of qualifying on the circuit and how the current cars can make the challenge even more intense: “Qualifying in Monaco is the most exciting of the season. With this new generation of smaller and lighter cars, the challenge should be even more extreme. To have a chance of winning on Sunday, you need to have a good Saturday.”

Wolff also emphasized that there are no guarantees in the principality and that performance varies greatly from track to track: “We arrive at the weekend without any assumptions. Monaco is a circuit different from all others on the calendar. A car that was good elsewhere is not guaranteed to be strong here.”

Finally, he reinforced the importance of minimizing mistakes on the narrow track and seeking consistency to maintain the team’s good form. “The margins are small, the consequences of mistakes are big, and previous performance does not always translate. We will need to be at our best if we want to continue our recent good form.”
Mercedes leads the constructors’ championship with 219 points. In the drivers’ standings, Kimi Antonelli is the leader with 131, while George Russell is second with 88 points.
