The FIA has clarified that there will be no change to the pit lane speed limit for this year’s Australian GP, as had been previously reported. Thus, the maximum speed will remain fixed at 80 km/h during the opening round of the 2026 Formula 1 season next weekend.

Earlier this week, information emerged that the limit would be reduced to 60 km/h. The change was mentioned by Tom Mottram, event director of the Australian GP, as a way to deal with the increased flow in the pit lane, as the grid now features eleven teams following Cadillac’s entry.
According to the initial report, the intention was to apply the measure on a one-off basis, only for this edition of the race. The potential reduction would have had a direct impact on team strategies, as additional stops would mean more time lost in the pits.

However, the FIA confirmed this Wednesday (04) that the rule will remain unchanged, dismissing the modification previously announced.
The season-opening round in Melbourne, held at the Albert Park circuit, will also mark the beginning of a new technical era in Formula 1.
