F1: Mekies praises Verstappen's "spectacular" performance at Nürburgring

Laurent Mekies commented on Max Verstappen’s participation in the 24 Hours of Nürburgring and praised the “spectacular” feat that the four-time Formula 1 champion accomplished.

During the month of May, the Red Bull driver made his debut on the challenging German circuit. Leading much of the race, he saw his chances slip away in the final hours due to a technical problem with the car.

Speaking about the Austrian team’s star’s endeavor, Mekies praised the passion of the F1 four-time champion and commended the performance in the race.

“We had an agreement that when he was taking too many risks, he would hide the onboard camera from me, just so we would all be more at ease. But no, look, it was spectacular. He lost the victory by a little, but certainly his speed was incredible. And he came back with a big smile, full of motivation, and that’s what matters,” he said.

“When I say he came back with a big smile, it’s because he really came back with a big smile. He was also smiling the week before because he knew he was going to participate in this different kind of race. It’s great that he is so passionate about the sport, in all its aspects.”
